A fatal traffic accident occurred in Pak Sha Wan this afternoon when a fire engine went out of control and killed a cyclist. The incident occurred at 1:52 pm.
According to traffic camera video on the Internet, a fire-fighting ladder truck was being driven along Hiram’s Highway towards Kowloon when it reached the uphill road section near Pak Sha Wan. It is suspected that the driver lost control and the truck swerved twisted to the left, knocked down a cyclist on his bicycle and then glanced a private car parked beside the road.
The fire truck continued to career along the pedestrian footpath and stopped after hitting roadside railing. The male cyclist, between 50 and 60 years old, was caught under the fire truck after he was hit. Firemen worked to rescue him, but he was severely injured and fell into a coma and taken to Tsung Kwan O hospital, where he was pronounced dead some time later.
