We regret to pass on that a 21-year-old Firefighter was killed in the Line of Duty in a vehicle crash on Friday, August 4, near Powers, Oregon. Firefighter Benjamin Charles Sapper, originally from Boulder, Colorado, was working as a hand crew member in the Gold Beach Ranger District. Initial reports are that the vehicle left the road for an unknown reason.
Benjamin graduated from Boulder High School and the University of Colorado with a degree in Applied Mathematics. Benjamin was going to be starting graduate school this fall at the University of British Columbia in Earth Sciences.

We regret to further pass on that a Paramedic from Starke County, Indiana EMS was killed in the Line of Duty today. in a vehicle crash. The ambulance was on its way to an emergency call when it was hit by another vehicle,
Paramedic Michael Wilcox was killed in the Line of Duty, and another paramedic, Brandy Salita, is in critical condition at Northwest Hospital in La Porte. It happened around 3:20 p.m. CT at the intersection of County Roads 800 South and 700 East.
