According to Perry Fire Chief Wayne Emmons, 52-year-old Perry FD Captain Kyle King stopped breathing and received CPR and ALS treatment. MARYLAND FIREFIGHTER DIES WHILE ATTEMPTING A WATER RESCUE

A member of the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department in Charles County, Maryland, died tragically this weekend while attempting to perform a water rescue. FF Chris Staley, age 21, was attending a family picnic on the shores of the Potomac river when one of the guests swimming in the river began to struggle and drown.  Chris entered the water to attempt a rescue, and tragically both of them lost their lives. We are awaiting further determinations and details from the NFFF from his FD’s leadership.

Our sincere condolences.

NEW FIREFIGHTER EXTREME RADIO MICROPHONES

While we don’t endorse stuff specifically, when someone comes out with a product that we think would be important for you to know about, we pass it on….especially one that could directly impact Firefighter survivability.

Motorola Solutions has launched their new APX XE Remote Speaker Microphone. The new RSM "mic" is designed specifically to enhance firefighter communications, safety and survivability in working fire conditions.

HERE ARE SOME DETAILS:

=RSM features exaggerated controls easily accessible with bulky gloves. These controls include a large, yet protected orange emergency button, prominent Push-To-Talk (PTT) button with strong tactile feedback and a large volume switch.

=This is the first RSM for the fire market to feature a two-microphone design (sound enters 2 different ways) that provides exceptional noise suppression for Firefighters working in extremely loud environments.

=A larger speaker enables the user to hear radio communications over typical fire department background noises such as apparatus, sirens and tools.

=RSM is optimized to perform with any of the best-in-class APX portable radios.

Other features of the microphone include a high-visibility impact green color, an emergency activated strobe light visible up to 10 feet in thick smoke, submersibility, and flexible mounting options with a large d-ring hook and clamping clip that rotates 360 degrees. These should be available in the fourth quarter of 2011. I’m sure you’ll be able to see these new mic’s at FRI the week of the August 22nd in Atlanta.

Take Care-BE CAREFUL.
