MEDINA TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A Medina firefighter was trapped when a ceiling collapsed during a house fire Tuesday on Maggie Marie Boulevard.
The Medina Fire Department was called about 4:52 p.m. to a house fire in Medina Township. When firefighters arrived, there was fire in the home’s garage that had spread into the attic and interior.
While battling the blaze, a large section of the second-floor drywall ceiling collapsed onto a Medina firefighter, briefly trapping him at the bottom of a stairway. A Brunswick Hills firefighter issued a Mayday call, and crews quickly removed the trapped firefighter.
He is now at home and “doing well,” according to the department.
One resident of the home was also taken to the hospital with minor burn injuries.
The Medina Fire Department thanked the Brunswick Division of Fire, Brunswick Hills firefighters, Medina Township Police Department, Medina LST, and the American Red Cross for their mutual aid assistance.
