We regret to pass on that a Portsmouth (Ohio) Firefighter died in the Line of Duty yesterday, Tuesday 3/22/2022. Firefighter/EMT Edward Long was serving as Engine 2 Engineer when he became unresponsive while returning from a call. He suffered a medical emergency, and they say his crew and the staff at the SOMC Emergency Department tried to revive him, but he passed away at 1130 hours.
In addition to working for the Portsmouth Fire Department for more than 27 years, Ed also worked as a special deputy for the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office since 1986, and was a United States Army veteran. FF/EMT Long is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Arrangements are still being made, and the Portsmouth Fire Department said they will announce them on Facebook. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
