OHIO FIRE APPARATUS STRUCK, SEVERELY DAMAGED WHILE BLOCKING SCENE ON I-75, FIREFIGHTERS ESCAPE SERIOUS INJURY

Billy    July 9, 2019    No Comments

Two crashes, including one in which a semi tractor-trailer struck a Liberty Township (Area of Cincinnati, Ohio) fire truck, closed northbound Interstate 75 in Butler County overnight.
The first crash was reported just before the exit for Ohio 129 and Liberty Way about 1100 Monday when two semis collided, spilling hydraulic fluid from both. Both semis were disabled from the crash and one was blocking the right lanes of IR 75 northbound.

A Liberty Township Fire Department ladder truck was on scene assisting with traffic control. The ladder truck was blocking the right lanes of IR 75 northbound with its emergency lights activated when another semi failed to move over and struck the ladder truck. Both the ladder truck and the semi sustained heavy damage.

A Liberty Township fireman was inside the passenger compartment of the ladder truck when it was struck. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to West Chester Hospital.
The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries and was also transported to West Chester Medical Center. The crash investigation revealed that the semi driver had fallen asleep while driving, troopers say. The driver of the semi was cited for Assured Clear Distance Ahead (ACDA) and for driving a commercial vehicle with impaired alertness.
