All,
Two people (including a Firefighter) are being treated for burns — (the FF flown to the Westchester Medical Center Burn Unit) — after a gas pump somehow exploded in Albany Tuesday.
At around 1515 hours fire and emergency units responded to the Albany Department of General Services, for reports of an explosion at the gas pump. When they arrived, officers located two City of Albany employees, one of them a Firefighter, with burn injuries.
Both parties were treated at the scene by the Albany Fire Department and EMS providers for their injuries. The Firefighter (reported as a Battalion Chief) was transported by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center. A second male was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further treatment. The fire was brought under control in about 7 minutes from when the fire department arrived. More to follow. KTIYP’s

The Albany Permanent Professional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 2007 posted that one of its members “was involved in a critical incident during the course of his duties, causing serious injuries and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital out of the area, following treatment on scene by Albany Fire Department personnel.”
FIREFIGHTERS THREATENED AT WILDLAND FIRES
Ranchers at odds with the U.S. Forest Service’s methods of fighting wildfires are causing confrontations on the Tartar and Fox fires along the Idaho/Oregon border.
The USFS released an update on the Tartar Fire Tuesday (yesterday) morning, a regular occurrence during large fires. What was unusual, however, was a specific note from the fire command, saying, “The safety of our firefighters is paramount. Last night, firefighters were pulled out of the Devil’s Elbow area and other portions along the east side of the fire as they were being harassed and threatened. Crews will disengage if such actions continue.”
Some ranchers in the area are at odds with some of the tactics employed by the USWFS in fighting wildfires, specifically backburning and burnout. Burnout refers to the firefighting tactic of letting a fire consume all of the fuel surrounding the fire, and backburning is used to burn out a specific area so that there is no fuel left to burn if the fire arrives. Ranchers along the Idaho/Oregon border are upset, fearing the loss of feed, grain, and grazing grounds for livestock.
