North Carolina Firefighters Responding To Fire Discover ‘Large’ Still–USE CAUTION!

Firefighters who were putting out a fire at a home Kings Dale Drive last Friday discovered a large still used for making illegal liquor in Iredell County. Deputies said the still had the capability to produce 50 gallons of liquor in four hours. Three industrial-size vats, which were used to store and process the liquor, were seized from the home. Deputies said the still was the largest that had been discovered in recent history.

"The still was located in the back porch area of the residence," said Capt. Darren Campbell.

According to a Sheriff’s Department press release, the home’s owner, Tommy Anderson, 40, told investigators that he had been operating the still for quite some time.

He was arrested and charged with possession and sale of alcohol without a permit.

"This still was using old truck radiators as condensers to cool the alcohol, and this method is particularly dangerous due to the lead and other chemicals that are in the illegal liquor," Campbell said.

Anderson was held on $2,500 unsecured bond.
