NEW HAVEN — Justin Augustine, a city dispatcher accused of ambushing a man inside a Whalley Avenue liquor store in June, was fired from his position last week, according to city documents.
Security footage showed Augustine punching a man several times inside the store, and then attacking him again as he left, New Haven police said in an arrest warrant. Video of the incident also was posted on social media.
Augustine, who had been on unpaid leave since his June 21 arrest, was let go Aug. 26, according to a weekly personnel report from the city’s Human Resources department.
Augustine was a supervisor in the Public Services Answering Point, the city’s civilian fire and police dispatchers, according to New Haven police spokesperson officer Christian Bruckhart.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday morning.
