WILMINGTON, Mass. — Multiple people were taken to hospitals after a crash early Wednesday that involved an ambulance and a pickup truck on Interstate 93 in Wilmington, Massachusetts.
The crash happened on the southbound side of the highway north of Route 125.
Wilmington fire officials said several people were taken to the hospital with injuries.
At about 4:21 a.m., Wilmington Fire and EMS were responding to a motor vehicle crash on I-93 South. While attempting to make a left turn from the high-speed lane to access the emergency turnaround from I-93 North, the Wilmington ambulance was struck by a pickup, Wilmington fire said. Both firefighters in the ambulance were taken, treated and released from the hospital.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated by Wilmington Fire and Action paramedics and taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time, Wilmington fire said.
The ambulance was not transporting any patients at the time of the crash.
The northbound side of the road was shut down near Main Street as crews worked to clear a fuel spill associated with the crash.
