Motorcycle rider injured in crash with ambulance – Indiana

Indianapolis – A motorcyclist was critically injured when he collided with an ambulance on the west side Saturday.

Police say a Wishard Hospital ambulance was headed to the hospital after a run to Livingston Avenue around 11:45 am. As the driver, 32-year-old Brett Willis, attempted to turn eastbound on 16th Street, but had to wait for an eastbound vehicle to complete his turn. At that time, two motorcycles pulled out of a parking lot east of the ambulance and headed westbound on 16th Street.

Investigators say one of the riders, 20-year-old Nathan King of Elmira Heights, N.Y., accelerated quickly and did not see the ambulance stopped across the westbound lane. He hit the ambulance at a high rate of speed and suffered critical injuries. He was taken to Wishard Hospital in critical condition, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening at this time. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The other rider, King’s cousin, had stopped and was not involved in the crash.
