MONTREAL – Montreal’s fire chief is quitting amid an
intimidation scandal that led to a high-ranking fire official killing himself.
Serge Tremblay, a 35-year veteran, announced he’ll leave
on May 31.
He admitted his department has a bullying problem after
fire-prevention official Stephane Archambault killed himself last October.
Archambault, a 48-year-old father of four, was allegedly harassed
by at least three colleagues. His boss later told QMI Agency the 2,800-member
department was ridden with intimidation.
“My organization is sick,” Tremblay told QMI in
February. “I have to do something.”
