A Memorial Star medical helicopter has made it back safely to Memorial Hospital after making a precautionary landing at an elementary school field. There were apparent mechanical problems. The chopper was in the middle of transporting a 62-year-old patient.
According to Colorado Springs police, the pilot of the chopper noticed a warning light that required an emergency landing.
The helicopter came to rest in a field at Midland Elementary off Broadway Street just south of Highway 24 in Colorado Springs at 3:30 a.m. Friday.
The 62-year-old female patient, who was being flown to the hospital, had to be transported via ambulance. No word on her condition.
A mechanic was called to inspect the helicopter. After a thorough
inspection, no problems were found and Memorial Star is now back in
service.
