We regret to pass on that Central EMS EMT Gina Ayers, 57, was killed in the Line of Duty in a crash and three others were injured today. The wreck involved the ambulance, a Ford Mustang and a Dodge Ram pickup truck and occurred just before 0700 today, Thursday, Nov. 17.
The ambulance was responding to an emergency call on Hwy. 20 and used the center turn lane to pass traffic.
A tractor-trailer traveling west on the road “yielded to the ambulance by abruptly applying the brakes and coming to a stop,” causing the Mustang behind it to swerve into the center lane.
A green Ford Mustang that was following too closely to the tractor-trailer, swerved into the center turn lane to avoid a collision with the tractor-trailer, causing the Ford Mustang to strike the Central EMS Ambulance head-on in the center turn lane. A black Dodge Ram pickup that had been following the Ford Mustang was struck as the Ford Mustang rotated after impact.
The ambulance, which turned over in the wreck, did not have any patients on board at the time of the crash.
All four victims in the crash were taken to Wellstar North Fulton Hospital. EMT Ayers succumbed to her injuries at 11:25 a.m.
The Mustang’s driver, Blanco Fermin Rodolfo, 48, of Cumming, suffered serious injuries and charges are pending further investigation. One of the victims was taken from the scene in an air ambulance, and multiple extractions of victims from vehicles were needed, according to firefighters on the scene. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
