ATWELL – — The McDowell County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a fatal crash involving an ambulance near the community of Atwell.
Chief Deputy Mark Shelton of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department confirmed at 3:15 p.m. that one person had been killed in a crash between a McDowell County Ambulance Authority ambulance and a coal truck. The crash was reported at 12:37 p.m. A deputy who is investigating the incident had not yet returned from the scene between the Raysal and Atwell communities.
