The NFFF has released a learning video about the Boyd Street Fire, created in partnership with the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
This was that fire where Firefighters were on the roof making their way down via the aerial ladder on truck 9. While they did so, they were engulfed by heavy smoke and fire from the large explosion. 11 Firefighters, both on the roof and inside the structure were burned, but luckily, all survived, however, some suffered significant injuries.
The below Boyd Street video, tells the story of this 2020 fire, which sent 11 LA City FD firefighters to the hospital—some with life-altering injuries.
The documentary details not only the day of the incident, but the months of recovery and departmental self-assessment that followed, as told through the voices of those involved. It is a story all fire departments can relate to—and learn from.
