We regret to pass on that Frederick County (Maryland) Fire and Rescue and the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Company are mourning the unexpected passing of valued member, Michael Powers, earlier this afternoon.
Firefighter Powers, 70, a lifelong member and active volunteer from Libertytown Volunteer Fire Company suffered from a medical emergency while on the scene of a vehicle accident. Earlier this afternoon, Libertytown Volunteer Fire Company responded to a fatal vehicle crash with entrapment. Upon arriving on the scene and assisting in clearing debris from the roadway, Firefighter Powers suffered a medical emergency and was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital. After every effort was made by Frederick County Fire and Rescue personnel and the staff at FMH, FF Powers was pronounced dead at 2:21pm.
FF Powers was an active volunteer at Libertytown Volunteer Fire Company for almost 40 years and a volunteer in Frederick County for over 50 years. He was the husband of Linda Powers, father of Michelle “Shelly” Beaton, an active volunteer from United Steam Fire Engine Company No 3 and daughter, Tammy Ambrose, a member at Libertytown and Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company. Powers was the father-in-law to Brendan Beaton, a firefighter from Ft. Detrick Fire and Emergency Services and Assistant Chief at United Steam Engine Company No 3 and Mike “Rocky” Ambrose, a firefighter in the City of Alexandria and volunteer at Frederick County’s Independent Hose Company and Jefferson County Volunteer Fire Company.
