Firefighters escaped injury when a motorist slammed into a Montgomery County (Md.) Fire and Rescue Service rig while it was blocking a working crash scene Sunday.
Fire and medic crews were on a crash scene on the Beltway near Bethesda, where there had been more than five crashes within an hour, Montgomery County Fire PIO Pete Piringer told Bethesda Magazine. Paramedic Engine 720 was blocking the left lane to protect firefighters and medics when it was rear-ended by a passenger vehicle.
No firefighters were injured; the two occupants of the car were injured, one seriously.
“Had [the fire truck] not been there, it could have been catastrophic,” Piringer said.
