Man facing charges after alleged scuffle with EMS – Michigan

A Hartland Township man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly fought with ambulance personnel who were summoned as police investigated the man for stealing loose change, an iPod and keys from a 1998 Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet owner, a 48-year-old man who lives in the 2900 block of Killarney Park Drive in Hartland Township, told officers with the Michigan State Police and Livingston County Sheriff’s Department that he noticed at about 6:10 a.m. Sept. 19 that someone stole the keys to his van.

As officers searched the area, Trooper Carey Robinson with the Brighton post found a subject walking on Sun Terrace Drive. He also noticed something with a reflective surface in the trees, where officers found a second person trying to hide.

Police said they found the stolen items in the pockets of the second man, who also was allegedly drunk. A preliminary breath test indicated the man’s blood-alcohol level at 0.123, police said.

Police said the second man admitted that he was "drunk and walking around, breaking into cars." He also told police that he had snorted "a large amount of cocaine" and had stolen unknown prescription drugs.

Livingston County EMS was summoned to the scene after the man began expressing a desire to die. As paramedics tried to treat him, the man reportedly began struggling, which resulted in authorities using "soft restraints" to hold him down until they could reach the hospital.

The man is wanted on an outstanding warrant in Oakland County and is facing possible charges in Livingston County.
