MAN CARJACKS AMBULANCE – WASHINGTON, DC

Joe Knitter    June 5, 2022    No Comments

A man carjacked a city ambulance in Southeast Washington on Saturday morning, police said.

About 8:50 a.m., the man approached D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel who were operating an ambulance for a report of a man down on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, police said. He entered the back of the parked ambulance and then placed his hand on a handgun in his waistband while threatening emergency personnel, who exited the vehicle, police said.

The man jumped in the driver’s seat and drove away, eventually leaving the vehicle at the 200 block of K Street SW and fleeing on foot, according to police.

There were no injuries, according to D.C. police spokeswoman Brianna Burch, who said it was not immediately clear if there was any connection between the call and the carjacking. Police are still searching for the carjacker and on Sunday released images of him captured by cameras.

Anyone who can identify him or has knowledge of this incident should call police at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411 but take no other action, police said. D.C. police offer a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for a violent crime committed in the District.
