As you know, Selbyville (Delaware) Volunteer Fire Company Fire Police Officer Laura Madara was struck and killed in the Line of Duty on Friday afternoon. Units were already on-scene for a previous vehicle collision on Friday afternoon when she was struck and died after being struck by a Selbyville VFC vehicle.
Police report that a Selbyville Fire Police truck was stationary facing north on Polly Branch Road in the southbound lane, just north of Lighthouse Road. With its emergency equipment activated, the truck was being used for traffic control while on scene for a separate motor vehicle crash, which had been called in about 15 minutes earlier.
As the scene cleared, the SBVC Fire Police truck, operated by a member, began to reverse in a southerly direction towards Lighthouse Road. At this time, Fire Police Officer Laura Madara, who was standing behind the truck was subsequently struck.
In addition to being a member of the SVFC Fire Police, Laura was also Ladies Auxiliary President. More to follow. Rest In Peace.
