Jr. Firefighter Critically Injured, FF Critical-Both in NJ

All,
A 17-year-old Junior Firefighter was critically injured at a fire yesterday. The member, a Ridgefield Park (west of NYC) High School senior, had just arrived at a trash bin fire behind a Japanese restaurant when a pressurized canister stored on a nearby wooden pallet exploded.
The Firefighter was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center for emergency surgery with broken bones in his lower leg and hands and remains in the pediatric intensive care unit today.
The Firefighters quickly knocked down the two-alarm fire, which extended to the exterior of the restaurant, and had the fire under control at 3:15 p.m., barely 45 minutes after it began. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was also notified. KHIYPs.
