Police on Saturday were hunting for the driver of a car who ran off after slamming into an ambulance so hard that it flipped the ambulance onto its side.
The Friday night crash at Homestead Avenue and Woodland Street in Hartford injured both members of the ambulance crew as well as the driver of a third vehicle.
Authorities have not disclosed the names of the victims. But a manager with American Medical Response said the EMT and paramedic who were in the ambulance had been released Saturday morning after being treated at nearby St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He said there was no patient on board at the time.
“We’re very grateful for bystanders in that community who stepped in and helped. These were people without training,” said Chris Chaplin, one of AMR’s Greater Hartford managers.
