Nine people were injured in a six-vehicle accident Wednesday in Gastonia. A Lincoln Continental struck a Gaston County ambulance carrying a patient at about 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cox Road and Aberdeen Boulevard, said Clyde Kantrell, Gaston County Emergency Medical Services spokesman. The car then struck another car, causing a chain reaction.
All nine accident victims were taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital, where one was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, Kantrell said.
Police believe the Lincoln’s 86-year-old driver had a medical condition that caused the accident.
