James was a highly devoted firefighter to the Irmo Fire Department. He loved the fire service. He used his free time to take classes and further his craft. J also loved to spend time with his family and son, Cole.

A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Riverland Hills Baptist Church with a private interment to follow. The family will receive friends after service.

Both the viewing and the funeral will be held at Monroe Central Jr/Sr High School, with the viewing happening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 30 and the funeral starting at 11:00 a.m. on May 31.
Chief Oswald served at the Farmland Volunteer Fire Department, and the IDHS said Oswald’s family has a “rich tradition” at the fire department, with Oswald’s grandfather once serving as Fire Chief.
