Firefighters Run To Avoid Being Hit By Car

An Anderson fire truck was damaged Saturday when a man suspected of driving under the influence hit it.

Anderson Fire Chief Billy Gibson said the truck was hit early Saturday morning while firefighters were manning a road block along Highway 29.

Gibson said the crash caused extensive damage to the truck, which was taken out of service.

He said no firefighters were hurt, but they did have to run to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

Gibson said South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers arrested the driver. Imor Galindo-Morales is charged with DUI. Troopers said he is an illegal alien and was taken into ICE custody and is facing deportation.

According to Gibson, troopers were investigating a deadly accident involving a car that collided with a gas tanker when the truck was damaged.
