FIREFIGHTERS INJURED IN HOUSE FIRE – NORTH CAROLINA

Eleven people were displaced and two firefighters were injured following a structure fire Saturday night in Goldsboro.

According to the Goldsboro Fire Department, crews responded to a call at 7:56 p.m. on April 11 at 1411 Herring Street. The incident was initially dispatched as an outside fire, but when the first unit arrived, firefighters reported flames coming from the roof and a window of a double-wide manufactured home.

A full alarm was quickly requested, bringing six apparatus and 21 personnel to the scene. Firefighters began an interior attack, but the fire had already spread throughout the structure, requiring an extensive search for hidden pockets of fire.

Crews brought the blaze under control at 10:19 p.m., though some units remained on scene until 12:26 a.m. working to extinguish hot spots and salvage the structure.

Officials say 11 residents were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Two firefighters were injured during the response. One was treated at the scene by EMS and returned to duty. The second firefighter was transported to the emergency department at UNC Health Wayne for a knee injury, where they were treated and released. That firefighter will remain out of work until cleared by a physician.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is currently considered undetermined and unintentional.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County EMS, Wayne County Emergency Management, the American Red Cross and the Rosewood Fire Department.
