COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Two firefighters were injured Thursday in a fire on Page Road in Chillicothe. At least one of the firefighters suffered 2nd and 3rd-degree burns.
The Scioto Township Fire Department, Union Township Fire Department, and the Chillicothe VA Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 1 a.m. on March 11.
Scioto Township said two firefighters were injured and hospitalized.
One of those was VAFD Assistant Chief Thompson who suffered a 2nd and 3rd-degree burn on his shoulder and back after a “tar-like” roofing material poured down on him while he was conducting an interior fire attack, VAFD said.
The department said his gear likely saved him from more severe injuries. He was treated at Ohio State and is now recovering at home.
The other injury was a Scioto Township firefighter. The department said the firefighter is doing well.
Scioto Township said Thursday that the degree of damages and cause of the fire are still under investigation.
