Firefighters operating at a large wildfire in south Georgia discovered 339 sticks of dynamite, and a U.S. Army bomb squad was called to detonate the explosives. The dynamite was found yesterday in a 1940’s bunker-like structure near the pen that holds black bears at the Okefenokee Swamp Park,
The dynamite was uncovered as firefighters prepared to conduct a back burn in the park area and were clearing out areas around the black bear pen when they came across the explosives.
The park is about eight miles south of Waycross.
