TARENTUM, Pa. (KDKA) — Two firefighters were injured while battling an apartment fire Thursday morning in Tarentum.
The fire was reported before 10:30 a.m. at a home on E. 9th Avenue. It started on the first floor and spread up through the third floor.
According to the chief of the Highland Hose fire company, the two injured firefighters where taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Those injuries are not life-threatening.
They had to pull themselves through windows in order to escape the intense flames.
“Two firefighters self-extricated themselves, pulled themselves through a second-floor window. They sustained minor injuries, mostly to their fingers and whatever else was exposed,” said Highland Hose Fire Chief Terry Chambon.
Everyone else was able to safely escape from the fire.
Four people live inside the home, which is divided into apartments. Two pets likely did not survive the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
