All,
Covington County Fire Coordinator John Pope said FF Allan was struck crossing the road as he attempted to help the people involved in the crash. The Firefighter was in his personal vehicle when he came upon the wreck. He had radioed in to alert dispatch that he was stopping to help, initially arriving where a vehicle had rolled over several times. FF Allan was taken to Forrest General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
Firefighter Jim Ralstin was rushed from the scene to meet with the Lewiston Paramedics who transported him to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston with burns to 65% of his body. He was later flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle due to the severity of his wounds where he is currently being treated. We will update additional details. Keep him in your thoughts/prayers.
23-year-old Dominic Williams, the medic driving the ambulance, and 21-year-old Patrick Ramsey, the on-board paramedic, were both transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The crash occurred on Alabama 21 near mile marker 219, five miles north of Sylacauga.
