An FDNY Brooklyn Firefighter was seriously hurt this morning when a window air conditioning unit reportedly struck the Firefighter from above, as that Firefighter was walking on the side of the fire dwelling.
Companies responded around 0850 hours for a fire on the first floor, with 2nd floor extension in a private dwelling at 1962 85th St. in Bensonhurst. The Firefighter suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital but reports are that the Firefighter is expected to thankfully survive. We have additional details posted on our home page.
While the exact details on how this specific incident occurred are not out, it is a strong reminder to everyone of us about the risks while operating outside, wearing/full PPE (the helmet appears to have done its job and probably saved his life) and also being aware when opening up, clearing windows etc. Prayers for the injured Firefighter on a successful recovery.
