All,
An investigation is under way after a “deeply respected” and “very experienced” Firefighter died after going missing in the line of duty in South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.
SA Country Fire Service (CFS) 65-year-old Firefighter Peter Curtis died while fighting a brush fire in Pinkawillinie Conservation Park, yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters determined they had an unaccounted member on the fireground, and an immediate search was started, supported by a CFS helicopter. Firefighter Peter Curtis was eventually located but unable to be revived.
He was a member of the National Parks and Wildlife Service brigade strike team and deployed to the area to protect the park and surrounding communities from the 10-hectare fire, believed to have been sparked by lightning overnight.
FF Curtis began his firefighting career with Forestry SA in 1995 before he transferred to the National Parks and Wildlife Service in 2017, where he served in senior leadership roles, including strike team leader and sector commander. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in Peace.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass it on.
