Tragic news from Istanbul, Turkey as a fire department aerial tower failed resulting in the Line of Duty Death of a Firefighter and the critical injuring of another. From the below videos-the rig looks to be relatively new-if not brand new.
When the ladder of the truck broke during firefighter training in Kadıköy (half a million population), 2 Firefighters fell on (or were thrown to) the roof of the apartment across from quarters-as you will see on the videos. One Firefighter died, the other was injured. Initial reports are that the ladder failed while the Firefighters were training with the truck. With the failure of the ladder, 2 Firefighters fell or were thrown onto the roof of an apartment building opposite the station.
The incident occurred at 1100 this morning at the Kadıköy Fire Station in Hasanpaşa District of Kadıköy. Firefighters Emircan Çolak and Mehmet Ali İnal, who were in the bucket section of the aerial tower, fell on to the roof of the apartment opposite the station. FF Emircan Çolak died in the hospital and Firefighter Mehmet Ali İnal was in serious condition and that his treatment was continued at Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in Peace.
