JOHNSTON CITY (WSIL) — A Johnston City Firefighter is recovering after being injured in the line of duty Thursday.
The Johnston City Fire Department says a semi tire exploded in his face.
The Firefighter was taken to Carbondale hospital with shrapnel injuries to his face, loss of hearing in one ear, and cuts to both eyes.
He has been released from the hospital and is at home resting.

**Sources say the firefighter was checking the tire for heat after they responded to a report of brakes burning on a semi tractor when the tire suddenly exploded. The fire had already been extinguished prior to their arrival.
