FLORIDA FIRE APPARATUS STRUCK ON I-95

A Boca Raton Fire Rescue apparatus was seriously damaged Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crews were getting ready to return from a previous crash on I-95.

Two units were dispatched around 0603 hours to that first crash in the southbound express lanes of I-95. One of the fire apparatus was preparing to clear the scene -about 12 to 15 minutes later – when it was violently struck from behind by a civilian vehicle. (See photo)

Thankfully, 3 Firefighters were inside the apparatus at the time of the crash. One Firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while the other two were transported for evaluation as a precaution. The driver of the vehicle that struck the fire apparatus was taken to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert.

One report is that the civilian may have actually “driven around” traffic safety and blocking units, and slammed into the rig.

Take care. Be careful. Pass it On.
