From the Edneyville Fire & Rescue Facebook Page:
On March 20 at approx. 4:22 am, EFD along with auto aid, was dispatched to a structure fire on Fruitland Rd with a subject trapped inside. The first arriving unit found heavy fire to both the 1st and 2nd floor of the home. Two firefighters entered to start a search for the subject while a third started attacking the fire with a hose line. Within the next few minutes it was found that a passerby had stopped by and assisted the trapped person out of a bathroom window. EFD continued a search and checked for further extension into the second story. EFD then had a firefighter fall from the second floor to the first floor who was then brought outside and was unconscious for about 2 minutes before starting to come to. They were transported, treated and later released from the hospital receiving only minor injuries.
While EFD was still working the initial fire we were toned out to a second structure fire on Sugarloaf Mtn off of McMillian Dr. Units arrived to find a 30 x 30 outbuilding fully involved in fire. While responding to this structure fire one of our mutual aid departments had a motor vehicle accident involving a fire engine that had appeared to have dropped off the road…No other vehicles were involved and one of their firefighters was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
With the initial house it appears that the fire started on the exterior of the house from a smoker that had malfunctioned. With the second fire it appears as if a heat lamp they had set up for chickens had fallen over causing the fire. Both fires were still under investigation by the Henderson Co Fire Marshalls office.
Edneyville was assisted by Dana, Fletcher, Mtn Home, Bat Cave, Blue Ridge and Hendersonville fire departments this morning along with Henderson Co EMS and Rescue Squad.
