DRACUT, Mass. —
A firefighter was injured while battling a three-alarm fire at an apartment building in Dracut, Massachusetts.
The fire started in a kitchen shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday on the second floor of a building at 200 Merrill Lane and spread up the wall to the attic.
The fire was extinguished at approximately 10:35 p.m., but crews remained at the scene to overhaul the structure and check for hot spots.
A Lowell firefighter was taken to Lowell General Hospital for a shoulder injury they suffered when a part of the ceiling collapsed onto them.
The fire damage was contained to the second floor, third floor and attic, but the more than 50 people who live in the building were displaced because the power had to be cut. The Red Cross of Massachusetts helped those residents find temporary housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
