A Firefighter faces charges after being accused of driving under the influence while operating a responding fire apparatus in Smithfield, Virginia. On September 21, the apparatus was responding to a possible structure fire when it crashed and overturned. Officials say the driver, a 31-year-old Firefighter, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and later released. On October 6, Virginia State Police confirmed that the Smithfield VFD Firefighter faces charges in connection with that crash, including failure to drive to the right of the center of the highway and driving under the influence of alcohol.
