LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Five residents and a firefighter were injured in a house fire Wednesday morning in Lynchburg, according to officials.
The Lynchburg Fire Department said the fire was first reported around 8:15, when neighbors called to say they saw black smoke coming from a house on the 100 block of Warren Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of a two-story wooden home. They found fire at the back of the house as well.
“Several residents who had already escaped the house reported that others were still trapped inside, and firefighters immediately began a search and rescue operation,” LFD said. “Crews were able to locate two people inside – one was brought out the front door while firefighters carried the other down a ladder from a second-floor window.”
“One firefighter also suffered a minor burn and has been treated and released from the hospital,” LFD said.
The house is considered a total loss, but no cause has been determined yet. The Lynchburg Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
