All,
We regret to pass on that Bridgetown Volunteer Firefighter Alexandru Uichita, age 40, died in the Line of Duty on the evening of Thursday, May 21, 2026, during wildfire suppression operations in Moschelle, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. While engaged in firefighting operations, Alex suffered a sudden medical episode.
Bridgetown Deputy Fire Chief Justin Oliver was working alongside Uichita, assisting another local department at the wildfire. As operations began winding down, Uichita mentioned he didn’t feel well. Chief Oliver instructed him to take a break, but Uichita suffered a medical emergency shortly after.
Members on scene responded immediately, but despite every effort, Alex could not be revived. He had been a member since 2024.
Our condolences to Alex’s wife, their three young children, and all of his loved ones. Those wishing to offer financial support to the family should contact [email protected], or cheques may be made payable to the Bridgetown VFD, with 100% of all funds going directly to Alex’s family. Media inquiries may be directed to bridgetownfire@bridgetownfire. ca.

While FF Uichita DID notify someone right away, tragically, he was unable to survive. Many times, we ( FF’s) “blow it off” when experiencing pain, tightness, or just not feeling well. Here is why we should never ignore any unusual pain, regardless of how minor it may seem:
