We regret to pass on that another Michigan Firefighter has died in the Line of Duty. This Firefighter, age 40, died after suffering a medical emergency while driving a fire tanker/tender to a run. This is tragically the 2nd Michigan Firefighter who died in the Line of Duty this week.
Last evening (Wednesday), Grant Township (Oceana County, Western MI) Firefighter Michael Buitendorp was responding to the scene of a camper fire in Otto Township when he lost consciousness while driving a water tender truck. His partner was able to stop the fire apparatus and call for help. After township fire units, Grant Rescue, and Life EMS responded, Buitendorp was taken to Mercy Health Lakeshore Hospital, where attempts to revive him failed.Firefighter Buitendorp was 40 years old and survived by his wife Anna and 4 children Jasper, Isabel, Redding and Andrew.
