Last night Rabun County, GA experienced 3 tornado warnings with two confirmed touch downs. One of the first dispatched calls was for a structural fire at one of the fire stations. Initial information dispatched units to station 10 instead of 11, however station 11 (Wildcat VFD) was dispatched to respond. Due to numerous large trees down units were unable to access the station to respond. Upon arrival of volunteer units in POVs station 11 found their station destroyed with major structural damage and fire. Mutual aid units from Habersham County and Batesville FD found the attached pictures on arrival. The area was also unable to access several other structure fires due to roadway blockage and power lines down. 12+ hours later search and recovery operations are still underway with confirmed fatalities of citizens.
