Joe Knitter    July 17, 2022    No Comments

All,

We regret to pass on that a Firefighter & 3 Law Enforcement crew members aboard a sheriff’s department helicopter have died in the Line of Duty following a crash Saturday night near Las Vegas, New Mexico. They were returning from a fire.

3 members of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and one member of the Bernalillo County Fire Department were in the helicopter known as Metro 2 at the time of the crash, The victims were identified by the sheriff’s office as Undersheriff Larry Korn, Lt. Fred Beers, Deputy Michael Levison and Rescue Specialist Matthew King.

The first responders were on their way back to Albuquerque after assisting fire crews with the East Mesa Fire. Our condolences to all those affected.

FDNY FIREFIGHTER LEG CRUSHED DURING AUTO CRASH OPERATIONS

A Firefighter operating at a two-car crash in Manhattan was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when one of the vehicles unexpectedly shifted, falling on top of the Firefighter and crushing his leg.

The vehicle that fell on the FDNY member had been partially resting on another car stopped at a traffic light at W 42nd Street and 11th Avenue.

Multiple firefighters were working to stabilize the BMW after its driver pulled forward and onto the second car. It’s still unclear what caused the initial crash. The top vehicle was already at a 45-degree tilt when it shifted forward and fell onto its side, on top of one of the firefighters.

Once he was pulled from the vehicle, the Firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for a leg injury. There were no injuries reported for any of the involved passengers.

FROM THE FDNY:
“As a result of the accident, a Volvo and a BMW were on top of each other. As members from Rescue 1 tried to brace and stabilize the car on top and remove the occupants inside, the driver of one of the vehicles hit the gas and caused a car to fall and pin firefighter Ryan Warnock below,” Acting FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said. “Firefighter Warnock was unpinned and taken to Bellevue where he is in serious but stable condition, being treated for injuries to his leg. Every day, members of our great Department put their lives on the line to protect the residents of our great city. We are grateful for the quick response of our members, whose fast reactions helped remove firefighter Warnock quickly and ensured he got the medical attention he needed.”

Keep FF Warnock in your thoughts for a quick and successful recovery.
