EMERGENCY
Fire Chief John Wilkinson Jr. died in the Line of Duty this morning.
Chief Wilkinson, 44, had responded on a fire call last night and then a
few hours later Lake Dreamland firefighters were dispatched to his home on a
medical call on what is reported to be related to heart related.
Chief Wilkinson was selected as chief of the Lake Dreamland Fire District in
September 2010, replacing his Dad, John Wilkinson Sr., who had a 47-year career
with the department where he’d also served as chief since 1994. Wilkinson Jr.
joined the Lake Dreamland fire department in 1985, working there as a
firefighter until June 2009. He also served as an assistant fire chief for the
Kentucky Air National Guard. For many years, Wilkinson served as a member of
the districts board of trustees, a role he still held despite being named chief
of the department. He was married and had one child. Our condolences to all
affected. RIP.
Firefighter In New Jersey
from the façade of a building fell on him in Bogota (NJ) yesterday has
been released from the hospital. Firefighters were called in after a contractor
who was removing windows from that Bogota storefront noticed that the top
beam had started to sag.
Capt. Peter Danzo, a 25-year veteran FF, was released from Hackensack University
Medical Center last night. Captain Danzo’s femur was injured, but not
broken, and he will have to follow-up with a specialist. Danzo and another
member of the department’s special operations unit, were hit by falling bricks
while helping to shore up the building. The second firefighter, Pete Maio,
a five-year veteran, was treated at the scene for an injured arm. Firefighters
were called to the building around 11 am yesterday after a construction worker
removed the storefront window on the first floor, causing the section above it
to sag. It appeared that the window had been supporting the structure and that
some of the “structural members” had rotted, Dan Howell, the borough’s
construction official, said Friday.
