FIRE CHIEF INVOLVED IN RESPONDING CRASH – ILLINOIS

MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Argenta-Oreana Fire Chief was involved in an accident last week while responding to an emergency call.

Kurt Michener, fire chief, said Thursday he was “doing okay” after the crash and that the other party was taken to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries.”

“This is not a post I ever thought I would be making, but in a world where everything seems to make its way onto Facebook immediately, I feel it’s appropriate to let our community know,” Michener said in a post on social media. “I’ve had a ton of people reach out to check on me, and I truly appreciate every message, call, and concern. It means more than you know.”

Michener added he is “incredibly thankful” for how his team handled the accident and continued to respond to the other call they had been dispatched to.

“Being surrounded by a great group of people who step up when it matters most is something I don’t take for granted. I can truly tell how much they care,” the fire chief said. “Accidents happen, and tonight I’m simply thankful that everyone is okay.”

Further details about the accident were not immediately clear.

The fire department said privacy laws prevent them from sharing specific details on the incident. But, the department added it followed the “appropriate protocols,” and the proper authorities are handling the investigation.
