FF/Medic Remains Critical, Lee Ielpi, 2 FF’s Return To Work (The Secret List)

Hey,

That Texas Firefighter/Paramedic who received severe injuries including the loss of her arm remains in the hospital. Last week, November 24, FF Kimberly Huckabee, 30, was directing traffic around a large truck after it crashed and burst into flames.  While she was directing traffic an 18-wheeler backed into her. The driver of the rig has been cited. FF/PM Huckabee received severe injuries to her left side and Doctors had to amputate her left arm but her fingers on the other hand/arm were saved. Huckabee remains in the ICU of a Beaumont hospital. With just a month away from receiving her nursing degree, her life, like other Firefighters who have been critically injured in the line of duty, has been dramatically altered and our help is needed.

FIREFIGHTERS RETURN TO WORK AFTER EXTREME CLOSE CALL

2 Firefighters who nearly died searching for trapped residents in a house fire are heading back to work. FF’s Chris Paine and Kevin Jacovetta are Arvada (Colorado) Firefighters who on April 3, both were badly burned when they got caught in a house fire. The fire actually started at a house next door but the fire spread to the home they were checking for trapped residents. No one was inside except for the firefighters who almost didn’t make it out.

"We were in the back bedrooms when the fire blew in on us and we had to go back out through the fire to get out," said Paine. "The sliding glass door on the back melted and it just fell in, and then all of a sudden the fire just came in on us." "It was just a solid wall of fire. It was like sitting in a blast furnace," said Jacovetta.

Both firefighters would sustain bad burns, but nearly didn’t make it out of the house altogether.

2011 CHRISTMAS AND HANNUKAH HOLIDAY GIFT THOUGHTS:

A BOOK BY LEE IELPI

As we do each year, we’ll suggest a few ideas (usually BOOKS, but not always) that you may want to consider as a gift. We’ll add some with each Secret List over the next few days and weeks. Please take a look, we would NOT waste your time if these weren’t highly valued gift options for you or folks that matter to you.

9/11 THE WORLD SPEAKS by FDNY Firefighter LEE IELPI

This book is what you would want to give your family, your Mom, Dad, Sister, Children, Husband, Wife or Partner. It’s a small, hard cover full cover book at a great price. A gift that will be read and passed on over the years.

It is a VERY easy read because it’s not really a "read".

Over 2 million people from across the United States and around the world have come through the museum galleries of the Tribute WTC Visitor Center since it opened in September 2006 right across the street from the World Trade Center site. Many of these visitors have written their poignant reflections about the impact of September 11th on visitor cards that are collected in the Center’s final gallery. To date, the Center has collected 200,000 cards written in 48 languages by people from 120 countries.

That’s what this book is. The book brings together a choice selection of these cards, many of which talk about the inspiration people find in the outpouring of humanity in response to September 11th. In seeing the efforts of Firefighters, Police Officers and EMT’s along with ordinary citizens, adults and young people write that they have been inspired to help others in their communities and around the world.

9/11: The World Speaks is a very cool collection of cards that include elaborate drawings, stories of personal experiences on September 11th, notes written by family members of victims, and statements by people of all cultural backgrounds who came to visit NYC.
