ADDISON, NY – Tuscarora Firefighter Jeremie Eccleston was assaulted by 33-year-old Quinn Lawless Stocum, while Eccleston was at the scene of a large barn fire early Friday morning, July 23, 2021, in Addison, NY.
The assault took place around 2:30AM as firefighters were battling a barn blaze at the Trappler Bros. Farms, LLC at 2952 John Rial Road. This location is home to a large dairy and beef farm operation that is a family owned business of Michael and Doreen Trappler.
The incident began as a verbal confrontation between Stocum and Eccleston and quickly escalated when Stocum punched the firefighter. The altercation prevented several firefighters from being able to do their job fighting the barn fire during the incident.
Firefighter Eccleston was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital for treatment for fractures to his cheek bone, as it was broken in three places in the attack. Eccleston has been scheduled for surgery on Wednesday to handle the serious facial injuries he received due to the assault by Stocum.
Quinn L. Stocum was taken into custody that morning by Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.
Stocum was charged with Assault 2 – With Intent to Cause Injury to a Firefighter. Stocum was placed in the Steuben County Jail without bail, however, Stocum was released later according to Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.
Stocum was not affiliated with Trappler Bros. Farms, LLC and was just a bystander who should not have even been on scene.
As for the barn fire, the building was a complete loss for the Trappler family. FNN was told that all cows were safely released from the barn in time by the owner Michael Trappler.
The Trappler family consists of Michael, Doreen and their six children. The barn fire damage the family’s well which was in the barn destroyed by flames. The home was said to be unsafe to stay in due to the electric lines that ran from the barn to the home were damaged in the fire. The electric issues in the home has made it unsafe for the family to live there presently.
There is still no word of any fundraisers set up to assist the family. If anyone knows of any, please share that information with FNN.
