12-year-old Harrisburg Middle School student is recovering at the hospital after being involved in a motorcycle accident on Odell school road in Concord.
Police and witnesses said the accident happened as a fire truck was driving around bend and the motorcycle was unable to stop in time. The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Odell School Road, near Untz Road.
Witnesses and investigators said a fire truck from an unknown department was heading northbound on Odell Church Road with its lights and sirens on to tend to another situation. Authorities said an SUV stopped to make way for the fire truck to get by but a motorcycle with a father and son on it couldn’t stop in time without losing control of the bike.
The child was conscious and transported to the hospital with what authorities are calling nonlife threatening injuries. We caught up with a resident who saw the accident unfold right in front of her home.
“It was scary, because like I say, when there’s a motorcycle involved you don’t have a lot of protection, and that’s real scary when you see bodies laying on the ground,’ said Yolanda Bennett, witness.
The State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident and we are working to determine which department the fire truck came from. A neighbor said the injured boy’s father called and said the 12-year-old was getting some precautionary head scans, but is expected to be alright.
