WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – A 21-year-old Lorain man was arrested for OVI after hitting a Westlake Fire truck early Sunday morning
Police said on Nov. 12 around 12:30 AM officers responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash on I-90 eastbound near Columbia Rd.
According to police, a Honda Civic driven by a 31-year-old Cleveland man lost control and struck the median.
He told police he had no idea what happened and appeared intoxicated.
At the Westlake Jail, the driver submitted to a breathalyzer test and was found to be almost twice the legal limit. He was charged with OVI, failure to control, and driving with a prohibited breath alcohol content.
The Westlake Fire Department was blocking off multiple lanes of the interstate when a Jeep Patriot slammed into the passenger side of the fire truck shooting across lanes of traffic and into a ditch.
That driver, 21-year-old Lorain resident Kaden Holmes, was removed from his vehicle by firefighters. Officers said that he had slurred speech and also appeared intoxicated.
He has no prior record, according to police.
The fire truck had to be taken out of service.
